If you're reading this, welcome to Oddball Creative Blog. A place to create, experiment, do a back flip, and all that fun stuff.
Jokes aside, let's get straight to the point.
As a recovering perfectionist, I wanted to challenge myself to commit to more creative projects. I've always had a really hard time finishing what I start - whether it's self doubt, the impossible standards I set for myself, or just simply having so many interests that I'm scattered and dart around.
Scattered is definitely the word.
In the modern world of hustle culture and being humbled by the 5 year old on TikTok who can paint like Picasso (meanwhile, I'll pat myself on the back if I make my bed that day), I think there's a lot of pressure, comparison, and also a niggling feeling that you HAVE to monetise everything. And on some level, this has always been my problem...
Whether it's seeking validation through vanity metrics on social media, wondering why that video hasn't "gone viral" yet, or despairing that your drawing of Leonardo DiCaprio more closely resembles the Wish version ... for whatever reasons I've seemed to attached creative efforts to validation.
When I was a child I used to draw, write, create for fun... and now? I don't know anymore.
I'm chasing impossible standards and bars I set for myself and, in the process, I've become detached from the very thing that makes me ME: creativity.
So that was a lot of waffle. What's it all about then?
Well, quite simply, it's a bit of everything.
All creative projects under the (leonardo dicapri-) sun. To try and test, to experiment, to just dive head in... to get away from the strategy and the planning and the 'I'll start next weeks'. There's a reason art therapy is a thing and this is what I envision the blog to me. And, for anyone else out there struggling, I hope this is helpful for you too.
If you're someone whose creative but doesn't always know how to direct it. Who doesn't know what they want out of a creative hobby or even a potential career. Who has a million and one creative ideas and interests but struggles to keep the promises you make yourself.
This is for YOU. This blog is for the oddballs.
So come along for the ride and stay tuned for more...
And, of course, it wouldn't be an Oddball post without today's creative attempt - a super quick drawing challenge.

Lots of love,
Oddball xox
