So I was scratching my head recently as what to post as only I, a recovering perfectionist, could do!
And then I thought, let's not reinvent the wheel (sorry for the corporate ick). Instead of forcing a creative project, why not share some of the stuff I've already got?
Amidst my many creative interests, photography is pretty high on the list. We recently went away for a weekend in Harrogate. Such a stunning place with lots to see and do, and we even had a free day pass to a National Trust site, courtesy of my bank, so decided to visit the Fountain Abbey ruins. A great walk, with lots of sights to see, and a great way to get the steps in too.
Anyways, what I realised from this little excursion is I was so out of practice with my photography! Yet another creative hobby I'd put on the back burner. But thankfully, it took no time before I was back into the swing of it, and I think the creative eye was still there.
Photography is one of my favourite ways to be creative. There's no right or wrong, just anything that captures your interest and takes your fancy - you can snap. I enjoy the photo editing process too, it's extremely therapeutic. I've also popped in a cool photo of some boats in Knaresborough (actually a separate trip, but close by!) so we'll say it's photography more of the "general YorkSHIRE area" - cue Miranda Hart / amanada barnes.
Anyways, I'm still working out what I want this blog to be... how it's going to work, and what to write about! I think a big part of it is to do with the experimentation and reviewing what I enjoyed, what worked, and what I'd do differently next time. This kind of 'growth mindset' and creative freedom is all stuff that I think is going to help with my mindset and to just give things a go.
That being said, I don't have to much to review this time around. I would like to learn more about photography though and some tips and tricks to take better photos. There's definitely an eye there for it, but some of the technical know-how is what i'd like to brush up on in the future. As a hobbyist photographer though? Not too shabby.
I'd also love to get some different lenses, although this can get SUPER spendy really quickly. I definitely lean towards more natural, outdoor shots at the minute. And in complete truth, it's because the lighting is always naturally so much better! I don't have to worry about or faff around with creating the perfect lighting set up, which as a beginner allows me to just get on with things.
I would like to experiment with other types of photography in the futue though and document it, as it's the trialling and testing that will make me a better creative in the future. I also think it's just as, if not more, important to document the meh attempts as it is the successes. So watch this space.
